Poverty

Participants were asked what their yearly income was. Income level was then compared to the federal poverty line for Hawaii. Responses were categorized into how many steps above or below the poverty line their income ratio was: “<1” times the poverty line, “1-2” times the poverty line, “2-4” times the poverty line, and “>= 4” times the poverty line. Poverty line calculation takes into account household size. For example, for a household of two people, the federal poverty line for 2023 is $22,680 and for a household of five people it is $40,410.
